Targetfinder — find optical markers without human interaction

Zoller+Fröhlich GmbH (Z+F) develops highly accurate 2D and 3D laser measuring systems used for three-dimensional measurement in a wide variety of application areas. These include, for example, the detection of the actual state of factory buildings, the measurements of crime and accident sites as well as a detailed inventory and damage assessment in archeology.

In cooperation with Z+F, V&R developed various software components that extend the existing software for the post-processing and the analysis of raw data of high precision 2D and 3D laser measuring systems.

Targetfinder

To register (i.e. to assemble several individual 3D measurements to a single point cloud) often optical targets are used (see illustration). The Target Finder that V&R has developed is a software component that is able to detect and to locate optical targets in high-resolution 3D point clouds automatically. Various machine learning techniques are used to detect also highly twisted and partly occluded targets reliably in larger distances. Customers can use this technique to register their data faster and more reliably than ever before.
